Headline on one site today "Now they care about gay rights!" Yes, suddenly the GOP pretends Hagel's remark many years ago was hateful. Really? Now they get it? Now they like queers?
Hagel won't support Israel? Really? Does the department of defense make foreign policy? NO. No they do not. They follow the direction of the President and the State Department. The department of defense has one job with two parts; 1) kill people, 2) break things doing it. The remark he made years ago about the Jewish lobby was a misstatement, his remark was to disparage the amerikan christianistas zealous wish for war in the holy land, not the jewish state nor jewish americans.
The GOP will spit and fume about Hagel, but he will pass the test. They hate him for being a war vet that thinks, and reversing his support for Bush and the war contractors when Iraq went sour. They will never forgive him, the religious right is good at that.

DeleteI would rather see a twice wounded vet as Secretary of Defense than some bureaucrat from the beltway in Washington. Hagel, like Evan Bayh were conned by Bush/Cheney/Rice etal into buying the WMD lies and joining the rush to war in Iraq.
Hagel seen what a goat fuck it had become and withdrew his support. I don't have a problem with that.
As to negeotiating with Iran over their alleged nuclear program - the sanctions are hurting Tehran - that is evident. And, plus - the Israeli's have never once, ever allowed the UN to inspect Dimora and their nuclear program. By most estimates Israel has at least 300 nukes. And, Iran, unlike Israel has never tested a nuke. And, if they (or even the NORKS) did so - We are talking weapons slightly larger in size than what was dropped on Hiroshima. So, the Iranians get a nuke - So what? Use the fucker and your ass is a black, oily, smoking, hole...
As to Isreal and Hagel's comments about the "Jewish lobby" in Washington. We are not connected at the hip to Isreal! We complain about the Jews annexing more land and building more settlements on the West Bank and what do they do?
Build even more. Yet, we keep sending them military aid. No wonder the Palestinians are pissed!
Obama need to name both Boner and McAssole to ambassador positions - Mongolia and Ethiopia come to mind...

ReplyDeleteThere are things Hagel has done that I disagree with, but at least he has both feet in reality. The thing with the "Jewish lobby" is that everybody knows it is the Jewish lobby, but he made the mistake of calling it that in public. (Actually it's the Zionist Jewish lobby.)
ReplyDeleteI hope he gets confirmed. It doesn't matter who Obama nominates for what post, there will be opposition and it would be nice to see them sputter when the one they oppose the most gets the job.
