Why the name "the yellow fringe"?

It's time again for my 6 month posting of the source of "the yellow fringe". During the closing verse of this excellent musical treat maybe you will find the answer. Like the character in the piece, despite how it appears to some, I do love the country and it's flag, all the flag not just some of it, most tributes discriminate. I deplore all displays of flags which hint of commercial, political theatre, and religious uses of it disgust me most of all, any flag so abused need to be put out of it's misery, destroyed, such use is a perversion.

I saw Hair on stage in London, July 5th 1969

A flag that signifies "One nation under someone elses idea of God" just doesn't fly does it?...Pop'

  2. We have a gadfly politician who sometimes makes national news with his bizarre public appearances, but one of Basil Marceaux's axes to grind is his hatred for the gold fringe on the outside of the American flag. He won't recite the pledge of allegiance to any flag with "yellow fringe". Here's a link to one of his youtube vids, hope you take a look at others when you check this out... it's worth your time. Welcome to Tennessee (we're so proud!)
