Environmental Working Group with another group conducted a poll.
94% of Americans (& 92% Repubs) want political leadership on balancing more energy production with protecting clean water and air.
86% want leadership on shifting from coal & nuclear energy to wind & solar.
79% concerned about fracking as relates to water quality.

Kansas legislature (a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch brothers) sees continued new wind energy farms as an attack on their beloved fossil fuel, so much so they are considering the reversal of a mandate from years ago that utilities should get 15% of power from renewable sources by 2020.
Why just a meager 15%? Darrel, I am not all that smart on what the windmills and solar panels can really do - I understand that one windmill farm in Benton County, Indiana now supplies power for 26,000 homes in Indianapolis.
ReplyDeleteI assure you that Indianapolis Power and Light's main energy supplier - Duke Energy is not happy with that nor is Peabody Coal Company.
SW Indiana boast the largest open pit coal mine east of the Mississippi River and there is a major danger, make that Fucking Huge, that run off from the mine could damage the Ell, White, and even the Wabash River watershed.
Yet, my representative in Washington takes money from, guess who?
Upside - the Air Force is embracing solar energy and Nellis (Las Vegas - lots of hot sun) has a huge solar panel array.

Sarge, 15% was set either as a goal or mandate (I don't know which), that the utilities should by a future date be using a minimum of that much from sustainable sources. This to reduce pollution of fossil fuels with all it's attending benefits. But as I wrote, some in the GOP want it thrown out as a plot by socialist or the UN, and, their fossil fuel owners demand it, losing 15% of their profit is not appealing to them, no matter the cost in health and pollution or global warming.
