Pope Francis, May 21, 2014, on destroying the climate.

Pope Francis made the religious case for tackling climate change on Wednesday, calling on his fellow Christians to become “Custodians of Creation”.

"Safeguard Creation, because if we destroy Creation, Creation will destroy us! Never forget this!"

“Creation is not property, which we can rule over at will; or, even less, is the property of only a few: Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude,”

"Humanity’s destruction of the planet is a sinful act, likening it to self-idolatry."

“But when we exploit Creation we destroy the sign of God’s love for us, in destroying Creation we are saying to God: ‘I don’t like it! This is not good!’ ‘So what do you like?’ ‘I like myself!’ – Here, this is sin! Do you see?”

  1. If this guy isn't careful he's going to give Catholics a good name. As a recovering Catholic (almost normal, thanks) I've long been embarrassed by the asshats in the big hats. But this fellow seems like a genuinely good guy.

    1. If this Pope lives long enough and continues on this path, he may transform religion into something I can respect. I hope he will.

  2. People only want to hear their biases confirmed anymore. By politicians, Popes, pundits, whatever. If you tell me something I don't want to hear I'll just change the channel. ; )

    1. NAC, There are tipping points, the best example I saw was the civil rights movement and the public swing from supporting the Viet Nam war. There comes a time when the weight and the numbers move people, not everyone, but enough to change directions. I hope we are near that point, I can't be sure with such well funded assholes like the Kochs on the other side, but I hope we are.
