5.5 point drop in kids IQ from agricultural chemicals

Organic looks a lot cheaper today.  Thats right, feed your kids conventional food sprayed with pesticides, and they cannot be as smart as children eating organic. Columbia University and Mount Sinai Medical Center study results indicate we are dumbing our kids.  Expect a tobacco industry denial, and loud.
When I was a kid I read one of those futuristic predictions that one day we could eat things that would change the capacity of our brains, wow, they got it right.  ......   Safe clean food to expensive, try stupid.

I am certainly glad I ate organic foods when I was growing up. :^)

  2. If all those pesticides can dumb down kids, they sure can cause ADD, Autism and Aspergers Syndrome among other behavioral problems.

I will be buying my produce from farmstands this harvest then I'll freeze it for winter use. I've found a local farmer with eggs from free range chickens and I think we've got another farmer who is selling sides of beef and pork. I want to check out his operation before making up my mind. See what they're eating and whether they're roaming the pastures.

I don't know yet about chicken and turkey.

This may not all be certified organic, but it seems to me to be better than factory farm produced.

  3. Whit,

Organic is poo pooed by some, but it was only a few dozen years back almost everything was organic, that's all there was.

  4. Sherry,
Getting part way there is all most of us can do, much of what we get at farmers market is not certified but if the growers are to be believed, it's not sprayed or fertilized, or rarely, usually the ones that do spray often want to boast of it claiming the others are nuts, so I think we are able to find out most the time which it is. One guy boasts all the time of spraying, claiming he can't survive without it, so we know, at least he doesn't hide it. Good luck.

  6. PaulV,
No that's not why. I think it's the fire retardant pajamas.

  7. I'm reading a Mickey Mantle biography right now (well, not RIGHT now). He grew up in mining country, lead and zinc, mostly. They have found similar results there.

    Progress!

  8. Fringe,

It can't be the fire retardent pajamas. The sales rep told me as long as I wore the matching tin foil hat, I'd be fine...

  9. Not surprised on the IQ link. Also agree with Sherry that pesticides and chemicals are a likely cause of the huge jump in ADD, autism, and other problems.
