Ryan is out in eastern Ohio and West Virginia in "coal country" campaigning for votes. When the name on your paycheck is Peabody Energy - and that check puts food on the table for your family and pays the bills - It gets very hard to be environmentally concious.
There are millions of rats out there, put them in cages with running wheels, hook the wheels up to generators and capacitors and away we go....unless PETA gets in the way
Ah, this is what Corporate people do. Especailly, when they don't have to live anywhere near where the coal slug and toxic runoff destroy the soil and water.
Ron: sure it's hard. I don't think we can suggest coal miners can quit and the Peabody will shut down and thats the end of dirty coal. As my fatherinlaw walked away from the cattle business when he got fed up with hormones and meds in cattle, he said to me, "hell we can't be a part of this", not many can do that. What we need is a concerted effort by industry and the public to move to green energy sources, they will be a little higher for a few years but in the long run they are cheaper and the more in use the more the price declines. Cut back and save a few dollars, and bitch all the time about coal fly ash, mercury-lead-low level radioactive materials, arsnec and the many other heavy metals and poisons that come from burning coal.
Red M: rats in a cage is a wonderful idea. Must we only use 4 legged ones?
G-e-G: Not only is their home far from the swirling dust clouds and racket of the mine and rail yard, their money is far from those areas as well, some of it in foreign banks, some of it on "K" street in DC slathering bribes on the feculent rectums of the congress they own.
Red M. I will go along with that, in the long run it will be a better deal. My state has (but I think it will soon be yanked by the (R) gov. Brownback) a couple of colleges and trade schools training in wind turbine installation and maintenance, also training help to qualify you to work in the Siemens wind turbine factory. That last one was paid for by the city of Hutchinson, the others are partially paid for by the state and federal government, the student pays for some of it too. Anyhow, I think it's all about done for, all 5 of our repub congressional nerds vow to kill it. They all are owned by Koch.

How about money to retrain the coal workers to run wind or solar plants?
