Cold nights are heating up

These charts run from 1970 till a few days ago.  OK your not on Fox news, the declining yellow line does not mean we are getting colder, it means the number of nights below the temperature stated are fewer.  In other words the declining yellow line is the statistical trend, it's getting warmer.

borrowed charts, info only, Climate Central did the art work

  1. Jim is already crowing about his side being right cause we had some cold days and snow. Jim is going to resign in a few months. Cancer. For sure the Okies will send up another stooge dumber than a bucket of dirt.

  2. In the 15 years I have been in Nebraska, I can say that the last 3 or 4 winters have definitely been much, much, milder. That's not to say we haven't had damned cold and snowy days, but on the average I am shoveling and scrapping ice and spinning tires on the streets much less frequently.

  3. I figured out not long ago that we're apparently on kind of a 20-year cycle here in the U.P. for beastly cold. Our younger daughter was born in December 73. That winter the temperature dropped below zero at night before Thanksgiving and stayed there until sometime in January. The day we took the kid home from the hospital it was 20 below in the middle of the day. Twenty years later we get another vicious cold spell. Temps below zero during the day many days in a row, lows down around -40 some nights, but it didn't last as long as it did 20 years earlier. We move forward another 20 years. We get less than a week of subzero, including one or two days where it's below zero during the day, and people lose their shit and start saying climate change isn't real because we're still having winter weather. The stupid, it burns.

    1. Hi Nan;
      When I was a little kid growing up on an old fashioned farm, not specializing in 2 or 3 crops or just cattle or corn, but growing a little of everything (which turned out not to be the wave of the future but the way of the past), my dad said weather was in 7 year cycles. Well 7, 11, or 20, it does seem to cycle somewhat, but overall it's getting warmer, here on my fields, the pests and diseases from warmer areas are now here, and in a few years may be into Canada. Soil temps, rarely discussed in global warming talks, are up at the same trend. Russia has the oldest soil temp records, they go back 150 years or more in some areas, and they trend up over the span of time.
