debit cards replace pay checks, another pay cut

I was looking forward to my new job when I started working at a McDonald’s location in Pennsylvania in April, but I was disappointed to find out that in order to be paid, I would have to activate a JP Morgan Chase debit card with heavy fees attached.
This from a young mother who can not afford to have her "paycheck" given instead as a vehicle for leeches to bleed her.   Go to  change.org and sign the petition against McDonalds.  These things charge for her to get the money, otherwise if you buy things with it till it's run dry you have the chance to lose it, and then there is always the last few dollars or cents, you cannot use that if you don't have cash for the balance of the purchase, which you had to fucking pay to get at an ATM.    This is another way corporate amerika drives part of the population into greater poverty.  This has to be fought, or companies everywhere will do it, except of course for corporate high end types, they won't be getting a debit card for their million $ bonus.

  1. Isn't this new requirement for those on Social Security to either have a checking account or if not that people will be issued a electronic benefits card the same? Can't you just go to a bank and get cash with the card? The military put everyone - including retirees on direct deposit years ago.
Darrel, I never use cash - I pay for everything with a debit card - Now, I do write checks for the bills.

Surely a coprpration as large as McDonald's offers direct deposit.

    1. Could be your first sentence is correct, but if so sounds like they have a choice. I don't know about this girls situation but from the complaint and information it appears she cannot get cash without a fee, and there are other fees as well. So you live by the debit card, makes you my expert, so......is there a fee anywhere in the monthly or yearly cycle for it? Do they charge for getting cash in the bank, or at ATM?
I won't touch a debit card, you have no ability to block a merchant from collecting the money if you get home and find out it's a piece of crap, or the hotel hosed you, etc, the credit card company will block it for you until resolved.

  2. Fringe,
I have spent the past twenty or more years either conducting my bank business with a credit union or with a bank that has no or minimal fees. JP Morgan-Chase is one of those "too big to fail", "fuck the little guy" institutions that only has use for those "little guys" when it wants their help via the feds for a bailout.

    1. Mister O: Morgan Chase is all over the little guy when they can suck fees off their little accounts.

  3. I have the same problem. High fees and I never can get all my money from my debit card. But it's true that the corporate world is making money on the backs of the working people. In the same time the richer you are the less fees and taxes you pay! I think there is something wrong in the all system!
